I have always loved animals, but moving away from Detroit opened an entirely new door in my mind.

Suddenly, I was watching deer move through the neighborhood, learning which birds visited my balcony, noticing insects I had never seen before and becoming curious about every plant, feather, track and sound around me.

What began as observation quickly became another rabbit hole.

I want to know how animals communicate, why they behave the way they do, what role they play within their ecosystems and what different cultures have believed about them. I am equally fascinated by science, folklore, symbolism and the quiet personal connections we form with the creatures who share our world.

This space also holds stories about my own little animal family; Chief, Lyric, Czar and Venus; and the joy, chaos, comfort and lessons they bring into my life.
